Hash Generator

Generate cryptographic hashes from any text using SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512. Uses the browser's built-in Web Crypto API - your input never leaves your device.

SHA-256 64 hex chars
SHA-512 128 hex chars

Which Hash to Use?

SHA-1 (160-bit)
Legacy algorithm. Not recommended for new security-sensitive applications. Still used in some older systems and for non-critical checksums.
SHA-256 (256-bit)
General-purpose choice. Widely used for file integrity verification, digital signatures, and certificate thumbprints. Part of the SHA-2 family.
SHA-512 (512-bit)
Higher security margin than SHA-256. Useful when a larger hash output is required or when working with 64-bit platforms that can compute it efficiently.

Important Note

Hashing is one-way. These hashes cannot be reversed or decrypted back to the original text.

Do not use browser-based SHA hashes for storing passwords. For password hashing, use bcrypt, argon2, or scrypt on the server - these are specifically designed to be slow and resist brute-force attacks.

Privacy

All hashing is performed entirely in your browser using the native Web Crypto API (crypto.subtle.digest). Your input text is never transmitted to any server.
