About Morse Code

Morse code was developed in the 1830s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail for use with the electric telegraph. Each letter and digit is encoded as a sequence of dots (short signals) and dashes (long signals).

International Morse Code (ITU) is the modern standard, used in aviation, amateur radio, and maritime communication.
