Digital fonts use bezier splines to describe outlines. Red circles are on-curve points - the path passes through these. Indigo squares are off-curve handles that bend the curve without the path touching them. TrueType fonts (TTF) use quadratic beziers (one handle per segment); CFF/OTF fonts use cubic beziers (two handles per segment).
Your font is read by the browser's FileReader API and parsed locally by opentype.js. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
